Molecular classification
MicroRNA (miRNA), Non-coding RNA

Overview

MicroRNA 548f-5 (MIR548F5) is a member of the primate-specific miR-548 family of small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to target mRNAs, often resulting in translational repression or degradation. Like other microRNAs, it is transcribed as a primary transcript, processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes into a mature miRNA, and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). While no direct evidence currently links MIR548F5 itself to a specific therapeutic target or major disease pathway, the broader miR-548 family has been implicated in the regulation of diverse biological processes and various diseases, including muscular dystrophies and cancers[2][1].
