MicroRNA 548o (MIR548O) is a primate-specific microRNA belonging to the large miR-548 family, encoded in the human genome and expressed as a short non-coding RNA. MicroRNAs like MIR548O function in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to target messenger RNAs via imperfect pairing and typically reducing mRNA stability or translation. The miR-548 family is poorly conserved compared to other microRNA families and may exert diverse effects in different tissues and disease contexts. While specific biological roles and disease associations of MIR548O remain poorly characterized, related family members have been implicated in muscular dystrophy and cancer-related processes such as migration, invasion, apoptosis, and cell proliferation.
