Overview

MicroRNA 548q (MIR548Q) is a human microRNA gene that encodes a small non-coding RNA molecule. Like other microRNAs, it functions in RNA silencing and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), usually resulting in gene silencing. The human miR-548 family, including MIR548Q, is large and primate-specific and exhibits significant sequence diversity among members. Functional enrichment analyses of target genes suggest that the miR-548 family as a whole can regulate a range of biological processes and pathways, including the actin cytoskeleton, MAPK signaling, ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis, cell cycle, and several cancer-related pathways. While there is robust evidence for the broader miR-548 family’s involvement in such functions and disease states, data specifically addressing MIR548Q remain very limited, and its validated targets and biological roles are not currently well-characterized.
