Overview

microRNA 548u (MIR548U) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule of ~20–24 nucleotides, part of the primate-specific miR-548 family that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally, typically by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of target mRNAs and inhibiting their translation or promoting their degradation[3][5][6]. The miR-548 family consists of many members, most of which are poorly conserved, and are believed to have evolved from transposable elements, contributing to genetic diversity in primates[2]. While some miR-548 family members have been implicated in cancer, inflammation, and other biological processes, the specific biological role or therapeutic relevance of MIR548U remains uncharacterized in the literature to date[2][3]. As such, MIR548U has no established role as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or pharmacological target and no safety concerns are currently recognized.
