Overview

MicroRNA 554 (miR-554) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule involved in the regulation of gene expression by binding to target mRNA transcripts and inhibiting their translation or promoting their degradation[1][5]. It is widely implicated in modulating immune pathways, including T helper and regulatory T cell differentiation, and the regulation of stimulatory and inhibitory immune checkpoint molecules[1]. miR-554 is associated with both oncologic and neurologic conditions and has emerged as a molecular biomarker in cancers (such as primary CNS lymphoma and multiple myeloma)[1][3], as well as in neurodegenerative diseases (such as mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease)[5]. While not currently a direct drug target, its central role in regulatory networks makes it relevant for future therapeutic and diagnostic development.
