MicroRNA 556 (miR-556) is a small, endogenous, non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA, involved primarily in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression via incorporation into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC); it generally functions by base-pairing with target mRNAs to induce translational inhibition or mRNA degradation[1][5]. miR-556 has been shown to regulate genes such as DAB2IP and Klotho, and its upregulation has been implicated in the proliferation, migration, and invasion of bladder cancer cells, suggesting a role as an oncogenic microRNA and a possible disease biomarker[2][5]. Additional disease associations are inferred from gene-disease databases, particularly for benign neoplastic conditions[1]. To date, there are no established drugs directly modulating miR-556, but it is considered a potential therapeutic target and biomarker in oncology.
