Target intelligence / Profile preview
MicroRNA 5580 (miR-5580, MIR5580) is a human microRNA gene located on chromosome 14q22.2 that encodes a short (~22 nucleotide) non-coding RNA involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Like other microRNAs, miR-5580 is transcribed as part of a primary transcript, processed in the nucleus and cytoplasm, and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which guides it to partially complementary mRNA targets to inhibit translation or degrade the mRNA. MicroRNA 5580-3p has been functionally studied in the context of oral cancer, where it acts as a tumor suppressor by directly targeting and suppressing the expression of LAMC2, thereby inhibiting cancer cell viability, proliferation, and migration. Its downregulation has been reported in oral cancer cell lines and tissue, suggesting diagnostic and prognostic utility. No direct drug interactions or safety concerns have been reported, and there is no evidence of spelling errors or ambiguity regarding its sequence or gene identity.
Downregulation of specific target genes via RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), leading to gene silencing through mRNA destabilization or translational repression; Specifically represses LAMC2 (laminin subunit gamma 2) via targeting its mRNA 3'UTR
