MicroRNA 5682 is a non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA (miRNA) that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally through base-pairing with target messenger RNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation[2][4]. miR-5682 has been implicated in the regulation of genes associated with protein digestion and absorption, and it affects major signaling pathways such as the IGF1-Akt and PI3K-Akt, as well as inflammatory responses[1]. Elevated miR-5682 levels have been linked to poor nutritional status and worse survival in patients with laryngeal cancer undergoing radiotherapy, suggesting a potential role as a prognostic biomarker in oncology settings[1]. There is currently no evidence that miR-5682 is a direct therapeutic target or that there are specific drugs that interact with this miRNA.
Functions via RNA interference to repress translation or degrade target mRNAs after binding complementary sites, primarily in the 3′ UTR of messenger RNAs. Downregulation of specific genes involved in protein metabolism (e.g., ESL and COL gene families).
