Overview

MicroRNA 5683 (MIR5683, also known as hsa-miR-5683) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA family, involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences at the 3′ untranslated regions (3′ UTR) of target messenger RNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation[6][4]. Evidence indicates that MIR5683 functions as a tumor suppressor in triple-negative breast cancer, where its increased expression suppresses cancer cell proliferation and tumorigenicity, and predicts favorable clinical outcomes[1]. Its downstream gene targets in breast cancer models include ACLY, RACGAP1, AK4, MRPL51, CYB5B, MKRN1, TMEM230, NUP54, ANAPC13, PGAM1, and SOD1[1]. MIR5683 and other microRNAs are intensively studied as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in various cancers and may represent future therapeutic targets, but there are currently no known direct interacting drugs or standard therapeutic interventions targeting MIR5683[1][7][5].
