Overview

microRNA-579 is a small non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA family, expressed in humans (hsa-mir-579), and functions as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on target mRNAs and modulating their translation or stability[2]. In experimental models, miR-579-3p is neuroprotective in the setting of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, reducing inflammation and neuronal apoptosis by inhibiting genes such as NRIP1 and impacting NF-κB pathway activity[1]. miR-579 is also implicated in cardiovascular disease, cancer, and immune response modulation, though specific interacting drugs have not been described. Like other microRNAs, it is considered both a therapeutic target and a potential biomarker due to its role in disease pathogenesis and detectability in extracellular fluids[1][2][3].
