Overview

MicroRNA 585 (miR-585) is a non-coding, regulatory RNA molecule that functions as a post-transcriptional gene silencer. It is typically expressed at low levels in multiple tumor types including ovarian cancer, glioma, and gastric cancer, and acts as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting proliferation, invasion, and migration of cancer cells. miR-585 exerts its biological effects by directly targeting oncogenic proteins such as FSCN1 (Ovarian cancer), MDM2 (Glioma), MITF, CREB1, and MAPK1 (Gastric cancer), thereby modulating critical signaling pathways such as MAPK/ERK. miR-585’s tissue-specific downregulation is associated with poor prognosis, and its restoration inhibits tumor growth in cell and animal models. It is increasingly recognized as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for cancer treatment, though direct pharmacological modulators are still in preclinical development[1][2][4][5].
