MicroRNA 6088 (MIR6088)

Target
MIR6088
Molecular classification
MicroRNA, Non-coding RNA

Overview

MicroRNA 6088 (MIR6088) is a short non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family, which regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally in human cells[1]. Like other miRNAs, it is produced from larger transcripts processed by Drosha and Dicer enzymes to yield a mature miRNA that becomes part of the RISC machinery, guiding sequence-specific repression of target mRNAs[1][5]. MIR6088 has been noted as one component of a multi-miRNA biomarker panel for sarcoma diagnosis, but there is little to no independent literature on its specific biological roles, disease relevance, or utility as a therapeutic target[2]. There is no current evidence that MIR6088 has well-characterized, direct disease associations or pharmacologic targeting, and no information suggesting it is a standalone therapeutic target.

Mechanism of action

Binds target mRNAs as part of RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), leading to translational inhibition or mRNA degradation[1][5].

03

Biological functions

Post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by inhibiting translation or promoting the degradation of target mRNAs[1][5].
04

Disease associations

Reported association with mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the pancreas[1].Possible candidate as a circulating biomarker (panel) for sarcoma diagnosis as part of a multi-miRNA signature; specific role, if any, not described independently[2].
05

Biomarkers

Included as one of seven miRNAs in a serum signature for the diagnosis of malignant bone and soft tissue sarcomas (Index VI)[2]. Not validated alone as a selective biomarker.
