microRNA 611 (MIR611)

Target
MIR611
Molecular classification
MicroRNA, Non-coding RNA, RNA regulatory molecule
01

Overview

microRNA 611 is a human microRNA (miRNA) belonging to the non-coding RNA family, typically processed from a primary transcript by Drosha and further by Dicer, then loaded into the RISC complex. It functions mainly to downregulate specific target mRNAs via base pairing and subsequent silencing mechanisms. MIR611 participates in critical cellular processes such as inhibiting EMT and migration in lung cancer by antagonizing MAPKAP1 and modulating the AKT pathway, with its expression inversely correlated with metastatic potential and overall survival in tumors. Its regulatory actions make it a candidate therapeutic and biomarker target in oncology

Mechanism of action

Inhibits EMT and migration by targeting and downregulating MAPKAP1, affecting AKT pathway activation in lung cancer cells\nmiR-611 acts as a gene silencer through RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) recruitment

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (through mRNA silencing)Inhibition of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)Modulation of cell migrationPotential influence on the MAPKAP1/AKT pathway in cancer
04

Disease associations

Cancer (particularly lung cancer metastasis and progression)Possibly involved in disease states where EMT and cell migration are relevant
05

Safety considerations

No direct safety concerns are documented for targeting MIR611 itselfTherapeutic manipulation of miRNAs in general may cause off-target effects due to broad regulatory functions in cellular pathways
06

Biomarkers

Expression levels of miR-611 in lung cancer tissues may serve as a biomarker for metastasis risk and overall survival predictionPotential biomarker for monitoring therapeutic efficacy in interventions that modulate EMT or MAPKAP1/AKT signaling
