Overview

microRNA 6165 (MIR6165) is a conserved, intronic microRNA residing within the neurotrophin receptor gene NGFR. It is a short (typically 20-24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA involved in post-transcriptional gene silencing by binding to mRNAs and regulating their stability or translation. MIR6165 is transcribed as part of the NGFR gene, likely without an independent promoter, and is processed into a functional mature microRNA in human cells. Experimental data indicates MIR6165 is endogenously expressed in several glioma cell lines and primary brain tumor tissues where its expression is correlated with NGFR expression. Overexpression of MIR6165 in glioma cells increases cell apoptosis and downregulates predicted gene targets such as PKD1 and DAGLA, genes implicated in apoptosis and neural signaling. MIR6165 may contribute to the regulation of tumor cell invasion or apoptosis in gliomas, although its precise mechanistic roles and disease spectrum remain incompletely characterized[1][2]. There are currently no described drugs that directly target MIR6165; its utility as a biomarker or therapeutic target requires additional research.
