microRNA 619 (miR-619-5p) is a small non-coding RNA molecule (microRNA) that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding target mRNAs, mainly within their 3′UTR regions[1][2]. miR-619-5p is differentially expressed in several types of human cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer, colorectal cancer, glioblastoma, and oral squamous cell carcinoma[1][2]. It has been implicated in the promotion of tumor angiogenesis, metastasis, chemoresistance, and metabolic regulation, particularly lipid metabolism in cancer cells[1][2]. miR-619-5p affects progression of these diseases via interaction with multiple downstream genes such as RCAN1.4, ABHD2, RUNX2, ATXN3, among others[1]. In addition, it is regulated by and interacts with various long non-coding RNAs and circular RNAs acting as competing endogenous RNAs[1]. miR-619-5p is being investigated as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker, especially in colorectal and lung cancer, but no direct therapeutic drugs currently target this miRNA[1][2]. As with other microRNAs, manipulating miR-619-5p levels for therapeutic purposes remains challenging due to delivery specificity and the risk of unintended gene regulation[1][2].
miR-619-5p acts by binding to complementary sequences in the 3′ untranslated regions (3′UTR) of target mRNAs, leading to mRNA degradation or translational repression
