Overview

MicroRNA 620 (miR-620) is a small non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, primarily through interaction with the 3′UTR of mRNA targets, leading to translational repression or degradation of those targets. It is notably involved in several carcinoma types, where it has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) by downregulating the transcription factor FOXM1 and thereby suppressing HER2 expression—affecting aerobic glycolysis and metastatic processes. miR-620 is also secreted in exosomal vesicles, enabling regulatory effects on recipient cells in the tumor microenvironment, such as reprogramming fibroblast glycolysis to promote cancer metastasis. The molecule is being explored as both a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic candidate, although clinical application is limited by its broad-ranging effects and challenges in targeted delivery.
