Overview

MicroRNA 633 (miR-633) is a small, non-coding RNA (20-24 nucleotides) primarily involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNAs, leading to their translational inhibition or degradation. It is upregulated in malignant melanoma and promotes tumor cell proliferation and migration by directly targeting and suppressing the KAI1/CD82 tumor suppressor gene. miR-633 also shows abnormal expression patterns in acute lymphoblastic leukemia and endometrial carcinoma, suggesting broader relevance in cancer biology and hormone regulation. While no approved drugs target miR-633 directly, its inhibition in model systems reduces tumor cell viability and invasiveness, positioning it as a potential therapeutic target and disease biomarker in oncology.

Mechanism of action
