MicroRNA 640 (MIR640) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule 20-24 nucleotides in length, encoded by the MIR640 gene in humans. It regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to the 3′ UTR of target mRNAs, including the Slit guidance ligand 1 (SLIT1), resulting in reduced expression and functional consequences for cell proliferation, adhesion, apoptosis, and radiosensitivity. miR-640 exerts pro-tumorigenic or anti-tumorigenic effects depending on the cellular context, notably enhancing glioma radiosensitivity through the suppression of SLIT1 and the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Its expression is dysregulated in several diseases, making it of therapeutic and diagnostic interest
