Overview

MicroRNA 6515 (MIR6515) is a human microRNA gene encoding a short (~20–24 nucleotide) non-coding RNA molecule that modulates gene expression post-transcriptionally. Mature MIR6515 is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), binding target mRNAs to inhibit their translation or promote destabilization. MIR6515-5p has been implicated in the regulation of inflammatory responses in human bronchial epithelial cells—specifically, it targets CSF3, a cytokine involved in immune signaling, in the context of particulate matter exposure. MIR6515 is one of many human microRNAs with context- and tissue-dependent function. Its expression may serve as a biomarker for certain disease states, such as being upregulated in asymptomatic Moyamoya disease, a rare cerebrovascular disorder.
