microRNA-663b (miR-663b) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that post-transcriptionally regulates gene expression by targeting the 3’ untranslated regions (UTRs) of specific mRNAs, thereby repressing their translation or promoting degradation. It has complex roles in human disease, acting as either a tumor suppressor or oncogene depending on context and tissue type. In pancreatic cancer, miR-663b functions as a tumor suppressor, inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion—partly by downregulating IGF2[1]. In colorectal cancer, however, miR-663b has oncogenic features, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion via targeting APC2 and modulating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway[3]. It is also implicated in hypoxia responses in cardiac cells by targeting BCL2L1[2], and demonstrates value as a circulating biomarker for various diseases, including cancers[5]. miR-663b does not correspond to a classic “receptor” or “enzyme” but is a regulatory RNA, and its modulation is being explored for diagnostic and therapeutic uses.
