Overview

MicroRNA 665 (miR-665 or MIR665) is a short (20-24 nucleotide) non-coding RNA molecule encoded at chromosome 14q32.2 that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally. It operates by binding to complementary mRNA sequences, resulting in either mRNA degradation or translational repression through the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). miR-665 has diverse roles in cancer, functioning as a tumor suppressor or oncogene via regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and drug resistance. It targets a range of genes (e.g., MYC, LIM and SH3 domain protein 1, HOXA10, ABCC2, TGFBR1, EXT1, MAPK1) involved in oncogenic and drug-resistance pathways. miR-665 is being evaluated as a non-invasive biomarker for early cancer detection and prognosis, although its variable function across different cancer types necessitates careful validation.
