MicroRNA 6724-1 (MIR6724-1)

Target
MIR6724-1
Molecular classification
MicroRNA, Non-coding RNA

Overview

MicroRNA 6724-1 is a predicted, non-coding RNA gene classified as a microRNA. Like other microRNAs, it is involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, typically by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and repressing their translation or promoting their degradation. The mature miRNA, produced by Dicer processing of a stem-loop precursor, is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), guiding gene silencing effects. There is evidence from RNA sequencing studies that a related miRNA-offset RNA (moR-6724-1-5p) is expressed in human B cells and plasma cells and may be differentially regulated in multiple myeloma subgroups, but the specific molecular functions and validated disease links of MIR6724-1 are currently unknown.

Biological functions

Post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression (inferred from canonical miRNA biology)RNA silencing (general to miRNAs)
03

Disease associations

There is weak, indirect evidence suggesting a possible role in multiple myeloma biology due to differential expression of associated moRNA species, but specific links have not been experimentally validated.
