Target intelligence / Profile preview
MicroRNA 6740 (miR-6740), abbreviated as MIR6740, is a short non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family, primarily involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in human cells. MicroRNA 6740 (MIR6740) is a member of the microRNA (miRNA) gene class, defined as a short (approximately 20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA molecule, transcribed by RNA polymerase II, processed via Drosha and Dicer ribonucleases into a mature miRNA sequence. Mature miR-6740 can bind target messenger RNA (mRNA) sequences imperfectly, generally resulting in the translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The mature miRNA is loaded into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), guiding gene silencing activity; however, the specific mRNA targets and tissue expression patterns of MIR6740 have not been clearly characterized in the literature to date. While miRNAs broadly play roles in fine-tuning expression involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation, no established disease association, clinical biomarker function, or drug target status is recognized for MIR6740 at present. MicroRNA 6740 (miR-6740, MIR6740) is a bona fide human microRNA gene, but it is not a recognized therapeutic target, druggable entity, or validated biomarker; its biological and clinical roles remain poorly defined.
