Overview

MicroRNA 6775 (miR-6775) is a member of the microRNA family, a class of small non-coding RNAs broadly conserved in animals and functioning primarily as post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression. miR-6775 is transcribed as a precursor that is processed to form mature miRNA strands (e.g., miR-6775-3p, miR-6775-5p). In recent research, elevated miR-6775-3p expression correlates with improved prognosis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and experimental overexpression inhibits tumor growth and metastasis in mouse xenograft models. p53 upregulates both miR-6775-3p and the solute carrier transporter SLC7A5; miR-6775-3p in turn downregulates SLC7A5 and members of the MAGE-A family, which are associated with tumor progression. As with other miRNAs, miR-6775 is not an enzyme, receptor, or transporter, but rather a post-transcriptional gene regulator classified as a non-coding RNA. The role of miR-6775 in cancer suppression and regulation of cell proliferation is experimentally documented, but evidence for involvement in other disease areas and therapeutic targeting is currently limited.
