microRNA 6805 (miR-6805, specifically hsa-miR-6805-5p in humans) is a small non-coding RNA molecule that functions as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression, primarily by targeting messenger RNAs for degradation or translational inhibition. It has been studied as a biomarker for acute kidney injury, specifically cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, where downregulation of this miRNA in urine correlates with kidney damage after chemotherapy[1]. Predictive bioinformatics analyses suggest that miR-6805-5p may regulate pathways involved in the WNT signaling and cell adhesion, suggesting a possible role in renal cell regeneration and fibrotic processes, but it is not known as a direct target for drug intervention, nor is it considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1]. Its role is presently limited to biomarker applications rather than active drug targeting.
