MicroRNA 6822 is a predicted human microRNA gene (HGNC:49999), which encodes a short RNA molecule of 20-24 nucleotides involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. MicroRNAs regulate gene expression by binding to target messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules, most commonly resulting in translational inhibition or mRNA destabilization. The biogenesis of microRNA such as MIR6822 begins with transcription by RNA polymerase II, followed by processing by Drosha and Dicer to yield mature microRNA. Mature microRNAs are incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which facilitates mRNA repression via imperfect base-pairing. At present, no experimentally validated targets, disease associations, or pharmacological interventions specific to MIR6822 have been described in the research literature or major genomic databases[1][2][3][4].
