microRNA 6857 (MIR6857) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule (approximately 20–24 nucleotides in length) belonging to the microRNA family, which functions primarily to regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level in multicellular organisms by base-pairing with target messenger RNAs and negatively regulating their stability or translation. MicroRNAs, including MIR6857, are generated through a multistep biogenesis process involving Drosha and Dicer enzymes.
