Overview

MicroRNA 6884 (MIR6884) is a human regulatory non-coding RNA gene that produces a mature microRNA involved in post-transcriptional gene silencing by binding to complementary sequences in target mRNAs, leading to their translational inhibition or degradation[2]. miR-6884-5p, a functional product of this gene, acts as a tumor suppressor in gastric cancer cells by directly targeting S100A16, resulting in inhibition of cellular proliferation, invasion, and EMT. Expression levels of MIR6884-5p are inversely correlated with S100A16, marking its potential as a biomarker for cancer metastasis and progression. MicroRNAs like MIR6884 have no direct protein-coding function but exert significant influence on cellular phenotype by regulating multiple genes within complex post-transcriptional networks[1][2].
