microRNA 7111 (miR-7111, hsa-miR-7111) is a small, endogenous non-coding RNA molecule that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to target mRNAs and inhibiting their translation or promoting their degradation[3]. It is implicated in the regulation of genes involved in metabolic, biosynthetic, cell cycle, and stress response processes[2]. Dysregulation of miR-7111, especially the 5p strand (miR-7111-5p), has been associated with certain cancers such as colorectal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, often through modulation of apoptosis-related genes such as BAK1[1][2]. miR-7111 exerts its effect via post-transcriptional repression of target genes, such as BCL2-antagonist/killer 1 (BAK1). In cancer, by downregulating pro-apoptotic genes such as BAK1, miR-7111-5p may induce tumorigenesis.
