MicroRNA 7151 (miR-7151, hsa-mir-7151) is a small non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family, which are endogenous RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to complementary sequences in messenger RNA (mRNA), leading to gene silencing, mRNA degradation, or translational inhibition[1][3]. Recent research has identified miR-7151 as being significantly upregulated in exosomes from patients with preeclampsia (PE). Functional studies demonstrate that overexpression of miR-7151-5p suppresses migration and invasion of trophoblast cells, likely by direct interaction with the long non-coding RNA KCNQ1OT1 and negative regulation of the Notch1 and TGF-β signaling pathways[2]. Transcriptomic analysis indicates miR-7151-5p modulates expression of several genes implicated in placental development and function, including PLAC1, ANGPTL6, HIRA, GLA, HSF1, and BAG6. Thus, miR-7151 may be an important regulatory molecule in pregnancy-related disorders such as preeclampsia, with potential utility as a biomarker for diagnosis and early screening. There are currently no known drugs that specifically target miR-7151, nor are there established mechanisms of action for such interactions. Notes: - MicroRNAs, including miR-7151, are not classical therapeutic targets like receptors or enzymes, but may be considered candidate biomarker molecules or gene regulatory modulators[1]. - There is no evidence of interaction with drugs or being a target for marketed therapeutics as of the latest reports[2][3].
