Overview

MicroRNA 7161 (miR-7161, hsa-mir-7161) is a small non-coding RNA (approximately 22 nucleotides in length) identified as an intronic microRNA present in human cells[1]. Although miR-7161 has been detected in breast cell lines, including non-tumorigenic (MCF-10A) and breast cancer (MCF-7, MDA-MB-231) models, it is not well-characterized and there is no direct evidence supporting its use as a therapeutic target, disease marker, or pharmacological receptor[1]. It does not have known interacting drugs or direct disease associations in the current literature. The evidence for its biological function and disease relevance remains limited, and its inclusion in some miRNA databases or tables has been inconsistent[1]. miR-7161 is a member of the miRNA family, classified as a non-coding RNA involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, generally by base-pairing with target mRNAs to mediate translation repression or degradation[1]. While hsa-mir-7161 appears in a published list of "highly expressed" miRNAs within specific breast cell lines, its specific function, disease associations, mechanisms, or role as a therapeutic target are not documented; it is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or drug target[1]. There is no substantive published evidence that miR-7161 is currently considered a therapeutic target, nor evidence linking it to drugs or biomarker roles[1]. The designation "is_incorrect: true" follows from the lack of established target biology, little functional annotation, and the possibility that inclusion in legacy tables may represent older or superseded candidate lists[1]. MicroRNA 7161 is an intronic non-coding RNA of unclear biological or therapeutic significance, not currently considered a validated therapeutic target, with minimal characterization in the literature[1].
