Overview

MicroRNA 744 is a short, non-coding RNA molecule (approximately 22 nucleotides) that functions as a regulator of gene expression by binding to target messenger RNAs and modulating their stability or translation[1][5][7]. MIR744 is encoded within an intron of the MAP2K4 gene on chromosome 17p12[7]. Its expression and activity are context-dependent: it can act as a tumor suppressor or an oncogene in different cancer types, influencing cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion via post-transcriptional regulation of multiple target genes including Bcl-2, SOX12, EEF1A2, TGF-β1, NKD1, and others[2][3][4][6][7][8]. MIR744 also has diagnostic and prognostic utility as a biomarker in some malignancies[5]. Research into therapeutic modulation of MIR744 is ongoing, but clinical drugs targeting this microRNA are not currently available. There is no major nomenclature or target definition error. MIR744 is scientifically valid as a microRNA target; however, its roles are highly context-dependent and require careful interpretation based on tissue and disease state[6].
