Overview

MicroRNA-770 (miR-770) is a highly conserved noncoding RNA located on chromosome 14q32.2 that functions as a posttranscriptional regulator by pairing with target mRNA sequences to suppress their expression. Its dysregulation is associated with tumor progression, metastasis, EMT, immune cell polarization, and a variety of non-malignant diseases. In cancer, miR-770 commonly acts as a tumor suppressor (e.g., in breast, ovarian, gastric, lung cancers) by targeting mRNAs such as MAP3K1 and JMJD6, thereby modulating cell migration, invasion, EMT, and the tumor microenvironment. In diabetic nephropathy, miR-770-5p promotes podocyte injury and apoptosis by directly targeting E2F3, implicating it in chronic kidney disease. miR-770 serves both as a functional target and as a disease biomarker, but no approved drugs currently specifically target miR-770; rather, molecular mimics and inhibitors are being explored in preclinical research
