Overview

MicroRNA 8066 (MIR8066) is a member of the human microRNA (miRNA) family, functioning as a small non-coding RNA (~22 nucleotides) molecule. Like other miRNAs, it post-transcriptionally regulates gene expression via base-pairing with target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and silencing them either by promoting degradation or inhibiting translation. MIR8066 has been identified as a conserved miRNA with potential roles in mRNA splicing, pre-mRNA processing, cell cycle, mTOR signaling, cell metabolism, and macroautophagy. It is implicated in the regulation of host-pathogen interactions, particularly in the context of viral infection by SARS-CoV-2, where it may participate in modulating host immune response and cellular stress pathways[5]. Its degree of conservation varies among species, and its specific downstream targets and mechanisms in human disease are still under active investigation. As of now, there are no known drugs that specifically target MIR8066, and its use as a biomarker or therapeutic target remains investigational.
