MicroRNA 8073 (miR-8073) is a short, non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. It functions as a tumor suppressor, primarily by binding to and downregulating several oncogenic mRNAs involved in cell cycle control, cell proliferation, DNA methylation, and apoptosis, including FOXM1, CCND1, MBD3, KLK10, and CASP2. Experimental studies have shown that introduction of a synthetic miR-8073 mimic significantly decreases the viability of various cancer cell lines and suppresses tumor growth in xenograft mouse models, mainly through induction of apoptosis. Its expression is typically downregulated or actively exported by cancer cells, and it is being investigated as a therapeutic agent and biomarker for colorectal and other cancers[1][2][3][5].
