MicroRNA 8084 (MIR8084) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule (miRNA) that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally, mainly by promoting mRNA degradation or repressing translation. MIR8084 is upregulated in breast cancer, where it acts as an oncogene (“oncomiR”) by promoting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and suppressing apoptosis. Its oncogenic effects are linked to downregulation of the tumor suppressor *ING2*, as well as activation of signaling pathways such as ERK1/2 and AKT and suppression of the p53-BAX apoptosis axis. MIR8084 is detectable in serum and tumor tissue, suggesting utility as a non-invasive diagnostic or prognostic biomarker in breast cancer. Although it is a potential therapeutic target, there are no current drugs directly approved for MIR8084, and more research is required into risk and clinical applicability[1].
