Overview

microRNA 875 (MIR875) is a human microRNA (non-coding RNA) located at chromosome 8q22.2 (also distinct variants in other sources); it has been found to play a critical role in post-transcriptional gene regulation, especially within dental mesenchymal cells where it controls cell migration and condensation during tooth organogenesis through modulation of the PDGF signaling pathway and suppression of PTEN and STAT1[1][7]. MIR875 is also involved in pathological processes, notably cancer (as a tumor suppressor or oncogene in different contexts), viral infection, and neural cell apoptotic pathways. It acts by directly binding to target mRNA sequences and repressing translation or promoting mRNA degradation, and its dysregulation is associated with disease[1][7][2][6]. Because of its precise and essential role, MIR875 is considered a potential therapeutic target and biomarker, although direct drug-target interactions and safety information are still largely unexplored in the literature.
