Overview

MicroRNA 920 (MIR920) is a short, non-coding RNA belonging to the microRNA (miRNA) family, typically 20–24 nucleotides in length[5]. miRNAs serve as key post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression in multicellular organisms, mainly by binding to the 3′ untranslated regions (UTRs) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation[1][5]. MIR920 is transcribed by RNA polymerase II, processed from a primary transcript (pri-miRNA), and then converted into a precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is ultimately cleaved into the mature form that is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[1][5]. While there are well-established roles for many miRNAs in the regulation of diverse biological processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and immune response, there is limited specific information on the direct biological or disease functions of MIR920 itself[5]. It is not considered a therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter), but is a member of the broader non-coding RNA regulatory machinery[1][5].
