microRNA 921 (MIR921)

Target
MIR921
Molecular classification
microRNA, non-coding RNA

Overview

microRNA 921 is a member of the human microRNA family—short, non-coding RNAs (20–24 nucleotides) that regulate gene expression after transcription, primarily by affecting the stability and translation of specific messenger RNAs. The MIR921 gene produces a precursor stem-loop transcript that is processed to yield the mature miRNA, which is then incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). RISC uses imperfect base pairing between the miRNA and target mRNAs, resulting in translational inhibition or destabilization of the mRNA[1]. There is limited functional or disease-related information regarding microRNA 921 specifically. It is not recognized as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar drug target, nor are there known drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with it in clinical settings[1]. The gene is located on chromosome 1q24.1 in humans[1]. MIR921 (microRNA 921) is a human microRNA gene, not a therapeutic target or well-characterized disease-associated molecule. Its primary role is likely generic to microRNAs: post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression via mRNA destabilization or inhibition of translation[1].

Disease associations

microRNA dysregulation is associated broadly with disease, but no direct association for microRNA 921 itself is supported by current data.
