MicroRNA-92b (miR-92b) is a small non-coding RNA molecule (microRNA) that regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, primarily by binding to the 3′ untranslated regions of target mRNAs and repressing their translation or promoting degradation[1]. It is abnormally expressed in a variety of cancers, often acting as an oncogene—for example, promoting proliferation, metastasis, and stem cell-like phenotypes in hepatocellular carcinoma and other cancers by regulating targets such as C/EBPβ, Smad7, and others[1][3][5]. In some tumor types it is downregulated and may act as a tumor suppressor[5]. miR-92b's expression patterns have been found to be highly specific to certain brain tumors and can be assessed through liquid biopsy, serving as a diagnostic or disease monitoring biomarker[2][4]. As a microRNA, it is not a classic receptor, enzyme, or transporter; therapeutic targeting or modulation is still experimental, with no direct drugs known to target miR-92b as of the latest reports.
