Overview

MicroRNA-935 (miR-935) is a short non-coding RNA molecule (microRNA) that functions primarily to regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. It exerts its effects by binding to complementary sites on messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and controlling their stability or translation. miR-935’s expression is dysregulated in several types of cancer, acting as either an oncogene or tumor suppressor depending on tumor context and tissue type. In osteosarcoma and glioblastoma, miR-935 appears to function as a tumor suppressor, inhibiting cell proliferation and invasion by targeting mRNAs such as HMGB1 and FZD6[1][2]. Conversely, in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and other malignancies, miR-935 has been reported to promote tumorigenesis and cell migration, partly by targeting factors like IREB2[3][4]. Its expression level also demonstrates biomarker potential for diagnosis and prognosis in cancer patients. No direct interacting drugs are currently known, but therapeutics modulating miR-935 or its targets are under investigation in preclinical cancer models.
