miR-937
Molecular classification

Overview

MicroRNA 937 (miR-937) is a small, non-coding RNA belonging to the class of microRNAs, which regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to specific sequences on target mRNAs. It plays complex and context-dependent roles in cancer biology, acting as both an oncogene and tumor suppressor in different tissues. In breast, colon, and ovarian cancers, aberrant expression or amplification of MIR937 correlates with increased cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and poor patient prognosis. miR-937 functions via direct targeting of specific mRNAs such as FOXQ1 and FBXO16, influencing key cancer pathways and cellular processes like EMT and autophagy. MIR937 is emerging as a promising biomarker and potential therapeutic target; however, no drugs currently exist that specifically modulate its activity in patients. The dual functional nature and gene regulation complexity make therapeutic targeting challenging, necessitating further preclinical and clinical research.
