Target intelligence / Profile preview
MicroRNA (miRNA) synthesis regulation encompasses all cellular processes controlling the production, maturation, and activity of miRNAs. This multi-step pathway involves transcription, processing by the Microprocessor complex (Drosha/DGCR8), export from the nucleus, dicing by Dicer, and RISC loading. miRNAs regulate gene expression primarily at the post-transcriptional level by binding to target mRNAs and inducing mRNA degradation or translational repression. Aberrant miRNA synthesis is implicated in numerous diseases, including cancer. Extracellular miRNAs serve as biomarkers.
