Overview

Prostaglandin E synthase (PGES) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) to prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). PGE2 is a key eicosanoid involved in inflammation, pain, fever, and various physiological and pathological processes. There are three main isozymes: mPGES-1 (inducible, inflammatory), mPGES-2 (constitutive), and cPGES (constitutive).
