Overview
The Microsomal Triglyceride Transfer Protein (MTP) large subunit, encoded by the *MTTP* gene, is a crucial component of the heterodimeric MTP. It catalyzes the transport of triglycerides, cholesteryl esters, and phospholipids between phospholipid surfaces, essential for the formation of apoB-containing lipoproteins. Mutations in *MTTP* cause abetalipoproteinemia. MTP is a potential therapeutic target for cardiovascular diseases, hypercholesterolemia, and obesity.
