Overview

Microspherule protein 1 (MCRS1) is a nuclear RNA-binding protein involved in chromatin remodeling, mitotic spindle assembly, transcriptional regulation, and RNA metabolism. It stabilizes the minus ends of kinetochore fibers, ensuring proper spindle assembly during mitosis. As a part of several protein complexes, MCRS1 modulates transcription by interacting with transcriptional repressors (such as DAXX), participates in telomerase regulation, and binds various RNA structures. MCRS1 is associated with multiple biological processes including cell cycle progression and maintenance of chromosomal integrity. Altered expression or function of MCRS1 has been implicated in certain cancers and genetic disorders. There are currently no established drugs or therapies targeting MCRS1 directly, and its primary classification is as a chromatin-associated RNA-binding protein rather than a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme.
