MAP1LC3BP1 is a human pseudogene related to the functional MAP1LC3B gene, which encodes the widely studied LC3B protein involved in autophagy. As a pseudogene, MAP1LC3BP1 does not encode a functional protein product, but its RNA sequence may play a role in the post-transcriptional regulation of MAP1LC3B and other genes through a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism, acting as a decoy for miRNAs that target its functional parent gene. While pseudogenes in general are increasingly recognized as relevant in gene regulation and disease (especially in cancer), there is currently no direct evidence that MAP1LC3BP1 acts as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or has a well-delineated disease role[3][5][7].
