Microtubule-associated protein 4 (MAP4) is a major non-neuronal microtubule-associated protein ubiquitously expressed and playing a central role in regulating microtubule stability, assembly, and dynamics. It binds directly to tubulin subunits and is involved in various cellular processes, with altered expression or phosphorylation implicated in diseases like cancer and cardiac conditions.
MAP4 stabilizes microtubules by binding directly to tubulin dimers and counteracting destabilization events. Phosphorylation regulates its binding affinity to microtubules.
