Microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs) are a diverse group of proteins that interact with microtubules, regulating their stability, organization, and function. They are crucial for maintaining cell structure, facilitating intracellular transport, and mediating interactions between microtubules and other cellular components. MAPs can both stabilize and destabilize microtubules. They are divided into families such as MAP1, MAP2, MAP4, and Tau. Their binding is regulated by phosphorylation. Dysregulation or mutation of MAPs are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases.
