Microtubule cross-linking factor 2 (MTCL2) is a cytoskeletal protein that organizes perinuclear microtubules by crosslinking them on the Golgi membrane, supporting directional cell migration and proper Golgi ribbon morphology. MTCL2 binds microtubules via its C-terminal domain and associates with Golgi membranes through its N-terminal coiled-coil region. It is essential for faithful chromosome segregation during mitosis and, through its autophagy-regulating functions, plays a role in reducing cellular glucose production in an insulin-dependent manner. MTCL2 is not a conventional drug target enzyme, receptor, channel, or transporter, and there are currently no drugs known to specifically modulate its activity.
